The Gar Rowbotham Memorial NLP Scholarship
Gar Rowbotham was a pivotal mentor in my life. His recent passing caused me to reflect on a number of things.
How short life is…
How much time and struggle you can save if you have a coach or personal mentor….
How much sweeter life is when you are able to truly live up to your potential and make a positive difference in the lives of others…
Gar was always available to me. He always encouraged me and had a way of pointing out areas I needed to improve without being critical or harsh.
As part of my committment to share the Modern Jedi NLP Mind Mastery Material, and to honor the memory of Gar, I am offering one full scholarship to the 2008 Modern Jedi NLP Taining, July 12-20 in CT (exact location TBD). The scholarship includes all the bonuses, manuals, CD sets etc. The NLP Scholarship winner must take care of food, travel and lodging costs.

Hi Mark,
Here is my entry to the scholarship contest. I will send a reference separately – wanted to get this off to you right away. Feel free to ask me any questions.
Thanks for this opportunity.
Lorna
1. Why do you want to attend the 2008 Modern Jedi NLP Training?
I want to have NLP training so that I can change things in my own life and ultimately so that I can help others.
2. What do you want to change in your life?
I know that something is holding me back from doing all that I am capable of doing. I have so many ideas – I dream about things I could do – and yet, I don’t do them. I think I’m afraid to make a mistake or have someone point out to me that I made a mistake. I need to change that and live to my full potential. I know I have a lot to offer.
3. What do you want to change in your work/job/career?
I want to have this career that I imagine, instead of just dreaming about it. My previous attempts have not been effective. I want to be successful.
4. Why should the scholarship be awarded to you?
My fear of making a mistake (see #2!) has kept me from asking my husband to pay for this training. I have passed up all of your generous offers because I’m afraid to say anything to my husband. But winning a scholarship…that I could tell him about!!! If I get the scholarship and subsequently take the training, my ideas will benefit others (see #6 for details)
5. References: Please have at least 1 friend or relative share why they think you should win the scholarship
6. What will you do with your new knowledge and skills after the training?
I am passionate about helping people improve their lives! I started my business, Healthy Changes, out of this passion. I think that a major part of the healthcare crisis in this country is due to the fact that most people don’t take very good care of themselves. I am a licensed pharmacist but what I am really passionate about is showing people that they don’t always need to turn to medication. As a nation, we abuse drugs in many ways. I want to do my part to stop all forms of drug abuse. Whether it be the use of prescription medication for a disease that could be controlled with lifestyle changes, or the abuse of street drugs, I have ideas to make changes. I have worked in both of these areas but with only limited success. I feel that NLP may be just the thing I need to make my efforts more successful. I mentioned my business, Healthy Changes. Working with my Healthy Changes clients to help them make lifestyle changes to improve their health, has proved challenging and not nearly as successful as I had hoped.I feel that NLP could help me make my business and my clients more successful. The other way I have put my passion to work is as a foster parent. This provided me the opportunity to not only care for and help a child but also her mother. This experience, as odd as this sounds, has been a dream come true. I love working with this young woman helping her turn her life around. This has involved overcoming drug addiction as well as a lifetime of poor role models. This is a long process and along the way I have seen many times that NLP would have been helpful. The reason I say this is a dream come true is that I have literally fantasized about doing just this – helping someone improve almost everything about themselves. The even bigger fantasy is to take this to the next level where I have a program (non-profit business) that incorporates all the improvements that an individual needs to live a full, wonderful and healthy life. I think it is pretty obvious how NLP fits into this whole picture! I know that I have said a lot here, but there is so much more. I’d be happy to provide more details if any of this is unclear.
Try this again!
Mark,
I would love to be considered for your training in July or in the near future. I am a music teacher and jazz performer in the Philadelphia area.
I originally had written a letter explaining my enthusiasm for the NLP and using the Jedi metaphor and it started to become a little documentary on my life. So I figured I would just answer the questions directly and write the documentary as time allows!
1. Why do you want to attend the 2008 Modern Jedi NLP Training?
I find NLP to be one of the most useful tools for communication that I have ever encountered. I help manage my states and communicate to my students to help them get past their limiting beliefs about themselves while still respecting their model of the world. I have been helping my friends and family with any techniques for as long as I can remember and NLP has been such a wonderful upgrade from using blunt observation and wit.
Personally I have lost over 150lbs. I have weaned myself off of pain pill addiction and I have reversed depression due to a chemical imbalance as a correlative of Metabolic Syndrome X. I literally deal with my disease with diet, exercize and state management skills. All of which I learned from self study in NLP and Nutrition.
2. What do you want to change in your life? I would like to be Learn Accelerated learning. I would like to learn how to create more useful anchors. I would like to be more compelling as a leader.
3. What do you want to change in your work/job/career?
The credentials and external references to calibrate my technique and concepts so that I can be more effective and also I am still learning how to deal with finanical limitations and I think NLP will help me get past all of that! I want to help people to help themselves.
4. Why should the scholarship be awarded to you?
Well, I am still dealing with medical bills from the Syndrome X situation. I have either been self employed or under employed since before college. Things are a bit tougher now since I was diagnosed. I have bouts of physical weakness and I am prone to the same symptoms as Diabetics with sever diabetes except I cannot medicate without causing all sorts of nasties like high blood pressure and cholesterol. All of which are not diet or exercize related. At my last physical all of my numbers showed that of a very very controlled diabetic. So I am doing my job!
5. References: Please have at least 1 friend or relative share why they think you should win the scholarship
At the time of posting I am waiting on an email from a few friends that will back up all of my story and reiterate that I am both genuine and sincere.
6. What will you do with your new knowledge and skills after the training?
I will help myself and others. I will use these skills and recreate my teaching services and use the credentials to help communicate that I not only know these concepts and techniques; I am certified as a practitioner and I will continue to model people who have similar values in lifestyle and business and refine, refine, refine!
Why Does it Work out better than you can possibly imagine? Because it can! Can it not?
The Jedi Code:
There is no emotion; there is peace.
There is no ignorance; there is knowledge.
There is no passion; there is serenity.
There is no chaos; there is harmony.
There is no death; there is the Force
Take care and enjoy!
Here is the reference I promised. Thanks.
I highly recommend Lorna Patterson as the recipient for the
Gar Rowbotham Memorial NLP scholarship.
I have known Lorna for 3 years. She was one of my first clients
and helped me to define my programs, services and value proposition.
I will always be grateful for that gift.
As result of working together professionally, Lorna also took
action on several other community leadership roles. She became
a foster parent and a Soroptimist. While many people talk about
helping others, Lorna is amongst a rare breed of people that
take swift action and actually do something to make the world
a better place.
I also believe the mission and vision in her Healthy Changes, LLC
business. I am confident that adding NLP to her skill set and
program offering will enable her to help clients see real and
lasting changes.
By attending the Modern Jedi NLP training, Lorna will be
empowered to take her business to the next level. She, along
with Dr. Deanna Cherrone, will lead the way in applying the
proven NLP techniques to further the impact of the holistic
health/wellness movement.
Lorna will be a great addition to
our NLP community!
It is with pleasure and honor that I recommend Lorna
Patterson for the Gar Rowbotham Memorial NLP Scholarship.

The Marketing Motivator
Tim Shay has been my mentor for almost a decade. In that time, he has been able to help me develop psychologically, musically, socially, and on many other levels as well. I have also seen him help mutual friends of ours in similar ways. He has been able to do all this through independent study. If he were to benefit from formal training, I think he would be able to reach out to even more people and help them the same way that he has helped me. Tim has a lot of great ideas that would benefit society, such as starting a school. I think that this training is a great opportunity for him to get much closer to reaching those goals. I’m certain that he would be able to use training in neuro linguistic programming in all of his endeavors.
Hello Modern Jedi NLP Council of Master Practitioners,
Time Line Therapy, Neuro-linguistic Programming and Ericksonian Hypnotherapy have made a significant improvement in many lives around the world. As we know, therapy not only assists in the well being of our personal lives; it builds positive relationships with families, friends, and co-workers, as well as bringing success in to the business world. Thus, we all live with compassion, peace and happiness.
I am applying for this scholarship because I am convinced it will assist with my goals today and for the future. The education itself would be a remarkable tool for my own personal growth, which will eventually lead me with the capability and the confidence to teach and inspire others. I know life is precious, and I learn to love and believe in myself a little more each day.
These therapeutic techniques have been successful in the past, and will be more so in the future as we use them to delve into minds and assist others in living a beautiful life. This is not to say that all minds are troubled, although all human beings would benefit from a fresh and positive approach towards life and with each other. I believe we all have a tendency to have doubt, bad habits, loose faith time to time, or carry pain from the past. Sociologists believe the world swings like a pendulum; it is currently shifting dramatically as we face war, recession, poverty, violence, fear of the unknown, and natural disasters. It is best to be prepared mentally and emotionally to help not only ourselves, but also others who loose hope. In fact, recently I was reading in an Abnormal Psychology book that cultures that do not feel supported by higher echelons of care, support groups and government during hard economical conditions tend to have higher suicidal rates and illness.
As far as a deserving scholarship, I thought I would share a big part of my life which led me to where I am today. I was the first born of an extremely proud father who served in Vietnam. As a young child, it was a wonderful feeling to be carried on his shoulders as we walked to the fire department not too far down the road. My father was a volunteer firefighter, so I gained much knowledge about fire trucks, fires in general (types, how they start, and staying safe), accidents of all kinds and how he assisted and saved so many people. He was and is an altruistic man. On my sixth birthday, my father came home from Fort Drum after his field training exercise of two weeks with a red rose and gray stuffed mouse. I still have that mouse with its pink apron and big white ears, and a poof of white hair on the forehead.
As a proud member of the military, my father would always bring us to military events. We were able to ride in tanks and jeeps, and we met many of his great friends who served with him in Vietnam. All life was not military, we did fish, camp, and sometimes he would take me hunting because I loved the great outdoors, although, I wanted nothing to do with shooting or killing deer as it would make me cry. Luckily, he never caught any with me. Special moments of him carrying me over the streams and creeks so I would not get wet remain with me as I always wish that I could have had more memories of him in that way.
My father loved cars, especially convertibles and trucks. He had a deep yellow Dodge Ram with a black hard top that was quite a fascinating toy for him. I loved driving in that truck, especially when he took the top off. Looking back, he had some awesome cars that are no doubt antique today. He took pride in every one of them.
One day, something dreadful happened. I don’t quite understand all the details, although, he was not working for the military anymore—not of his own doing. His life, and my family’s life had changed, as we knew it. I was eight years old when three men in suits wearing sunglasses came knocking on our door early one morning. They forced my mother to clear out all of the belongings in the Dodge Ram; they were not very nice and I certainly let them know as I felt I was protecting my parents. Although, I think they tried to ignore me as they never said a word to me but only looked in my direction. Maybe that is why they wore sunglasses—it is possible the event was as emotional for them as it was for me. I remember crying, and my father staying in his bedroom sitting on his bed smoking a cigarette facing the wall. Today, I can only imagine the pain he must have been feeling as he sat there feeling helpless as his world continually fell apart.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder took over his life. At that time, the Veteran’s Administration did not quite understand the illness; nor was the government willing to accept responsibility of the suffering soldiers of Agent Orange. He was never a big drinker, but at that time he began to drink alcohol excessively which eventually led to outbursts, physical fighting with his friends in the middle of the night and flashbacks of the war. Enough outrage in him to cause him to become physically abusive toward my mother.
With all of the troubles at home, my parents must have decided that separation was best. My father sat us all down to inform us he was leaving. My brother, sister and I began to cry. He stayed. Unfortunately, he slept most of his days away due to medication and depression, and was miserable throughout his life. The same still stands today, except now he is in a wheelchair, looking very fragile for a man at the age of 56. We lived most of our lives on welfare and my father never received total disability from the war until after I graduated from high school.
Children who grow up in an environment with depression tend to experience developmental issues as they grow into adults. Children blame themselves for the behavior of their parents because they don’t understand why they are not feeling loved or getting positive attention, or sometimes a child will become the parent. I know this because of my own research and my experience of taking on many responsibilities in my own family. My brother and sister are trying to get their lives in order today.
My sister not only has the dark memories of childhood to overcome; she also works with a past of sexual abuse from an alcoholic family member. Her self-esteem has been severely affected and impacts many areas in her life, to include her physical health and most of all happiness. She is beautiful, both inside and out—one day she just has to believe it for herself.
My brother came home from Iraq over a year ago. He now suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Not only does he feel the quilt of shooting his rifle at the enemy; he was involved in a humvee accident in which a roadside bomb exploded under the seat of his best friend. He is angry with himself for surviving while his friend violently died in front of him. He was sent home from Iraq as he felt he no longer wanted to live. He still feels suicidal from time to time and has many emotional issues to work through. He too must learn to value his own self worth and believe that he is worthy of living a happy life, as I don’t think he has ever experienced the true nature of what true happiness could truly be like.
I could go on about other life experiences; like corporate America or business in general. Although, knowing that people can truly suffer from their own negative beliefs and pasts, or illnesses that hide within, is all I need as I look at each person and try not to judge based on their cover. Life has taught me that we need to respect each others differences, honor each others gifts and love one another unconditionally to be successful. If I had not met the most wonderful people in my life whom freely showed me their love, encouragement, and believed in me unconditionally, I could be a lost soul too. Many of those people I met were through the military as I served in the Air Force, and I found them to be great mentors in my life. I also choose to read the most inspirational books from amazing authors who also once suffered from something quite painfully dramatic and grew to be the greatest teachers. I feel I am meant to be a healer.
My goal today is to work for myself as I experience and learn about the gifts of life, and continue to meet people from all cultures. This training is part of that goal. As far as education, my goal is to obtain a doctorate in psychology and share my assets with all of those who are willing to accept them, to include my family.
I feel my story answers all of the questions required for the scholarship. It is more than simple because I know there are many lives like mine around the world. If there is one true gift that could come into my world at this time, it would be this training. I am thrilled and excited to have an opportunity to make the world a better place.
These are amazing stories! Thanks Everyone for sharing them! -Mark Shepard
NLP Scholarship application!
I sincerely would love the opportunity to be considered for your Modern Jedi NLP training. I have been working professionally in the healing field for almost 7 years now and truly feel that this is what I am meant to do.
I am a Certified Hypnotist through the National Guild of Hypnotists, and have attended their convention seminars, which have introduced me to many different modalities of hypnosis and healing. I am also an Intuitive Counselor and as such I help people to direct their future, connect to their past and gently contribute to the inner guidance they already have. I am also a Reiki Master and a Certified Reflexologist. I practice reflexology with clients regularly and use Reiki as a kind of adjunct healing during many sessions.
I see clients on an individual level, in groups and I teach workshops. As you can see, I really enjoy working with people to help them change themselves for the better and help them overcome many limiting and debilitating beliefs that have been reinforced over their many years.
On that note, I too, have had very limiting & debilitating beliefs which I do not normally share, but I feel this is important enough to “bare my soul” to you.
I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus antibodies, Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome, Metabolic Syndrome, Borderline Diabetes, Hashimotos Disease, Thyroid tumors, Sleep Apnea and the list goes on! Although I have lived with these issues for many years, have a wonderful supportive husband and two beautiful daughters, everything has recently come to a head. I recently lost my 68 year old mother to her battle with Lupus, among all of her other diseases. She was bed ridden for a couple of years, and essentially lost all will to live and gained weight daily. I tried, as my siblings did, to help her as much as possible, but it was very difficult for her to accept. She didn’t feel as though she deserved the help, and the few times she did accept our help or any other type of help it ate away at her a little bit more as she was an extremely proud woman.
She raised me and my older sister and brother by herself, after my father left when she was 3 months pregnant with me. She struggled with 3 jobs to care for us financially and emotionally, and most importantly, she was my best friend. She was also the only grandparent my children had left as both of my husband’s parents have died within the last 5 years.
Although I tried using my intuitive abilities along with the various healing modalities I have been practicing, nothing seemed to help her. Doctors could not figure out what to do, and blamed her for her own illnesses. I too, have that problem. I have all of this training and I still can’t seem to help myself (limiting belief!). I have been seeing many different doctors regularly and none of them have been able to really determine what is going on. I have tried many different healing modalities including medication (with bad side effects), acupuncture (over a year’s worth), hypnosis, Reiki, massage, energy work, etc. to no avail. I have kept the various diseases and added more to the list along with weight despite going to the gym regularly.
I have come to the realization that I have the power to stop what is going on with me before what happens to my mother happens to me. I know that there is a way to change how my body, mind and spirit process my every day life and that I need to facilitate that change for myself now.
This also holds true for my clients. Even though I use all my “tools” I still feel like there is something more out there. I have been drawn to NLP for many years now, and I have practiced your methods that you have on your website with some clients and on me. I feel this may be just what is needed to genuinely help my clients help themselves. Many are very stuck in what they feel is their “destiny”. I used to be stuck in that, too. Now I know I can free myself, and help my clients and all the many new clients to come if I add NLP as a predominate therapy in all aspects of my life.
As I am self employed part time (paying for an office) and part time stay at home mom, married to a wonderful man who is also self employed I have not been able to acquire the funds to cover the cost of the workshop (not to mention the mortgage!). I live in Connecticut so I would be able to commute if necessary, and would love the opportunity to show you how excited I am about changing my life and helping others change their lives through the use of your Modern Jedi NLP Training Seminar.
I thank you for this wonderful opportunity and for the work you are doing to help create a better life for everyone!
As I have finally gotten up the nerve to open up and apply for this scholarship I have yet to receive recommendations from friends. I will forward them shortly!
Tim would be the perfect person to learn more about NLP and help people. I’ve taken saxophone lessons with him for almost 2 years and he has incorporated psychology into almost every lesson. He has taught me more about myself and how I need to run my mind than i could have ever imagined. I would absolutely recommend him for this learning opportunity.

Dear Mark,
I am writing this “letter” in support of Lorna Patterson’s application
for the NLP scholarship being offered. I met Lorna through Kathy
McAfee and we share a common vision of changing the health of our
community and ultimately, the health of our nation one patient at a
time. We also aspire to play a role in changing the current “medical
model,” a tall order given the state of our present health care
system. Lorna’s passion for this work would be greatly enhanced by
participating in your NLP program as it would give her many of the
tools she would need to achieve her personal and professional goals.
I hope that you will strongly consider her application and grant her
the scholarship. You may contact me via phone or e-mail should you
require any further information. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Deanna Cherrone, M.D.
Throughout my life, I have been exposed to hundreds of teachers, but none can parallel the significance of Mr. Shay. With his unmeasurable knowledge of communications, Mr. Shay has influenced me positively, helping refine my character to reflect my personal ambitions. Already, I can notice the effects of his instruction; I have become a better musician and the strategies he teaches exemplify ground-breaking techniques that can be applied to all aspects of life. With NLP training, Mr. Shay will not only contribute to the success of his students and patients, but also further the field of NLP by applying his training in unprecedented manners. By examining the success Mr. Shay has already achieved, his future successes are undoubtedly inevitable.

This letter is submitted on behalf of Ms. Patty Gaudette in her pursuit
of scholarship funding to further her education and then put that
education to use in helping others.
I first met Patty in 1999 and then later became her military commander
and occasional mentor.
During my thirty-five year career I held many position as both enlisted
and officer. And now in my reflective years I believe my insights are
not clouded by busy workdays and multiple tasks.
My reflections of Ms. Gaudette are extremely positive. Her concern for
others in and outside the military unit was commendable. And her job
performance was outstanding. No matter what the task, she would take it
on with the energy and dedication that would ensure success.
I state without reservation that Patty Gaudette possesses the maturity,
knowledge skills and abilities to ensure any scholarships awarded would
be an investment in the future that would exceed all anticipated
dividends.
I highly recommend she be given your first and best consideration.
I may be reached at the number above should you desire to discuss this
letter with me.
Robert D. McInerney Sr.
Lt. Col.(RET)
It is with pleasure that I give this letter of recommendation for Patty Gaudette. I have known Patty for approximately four years and during that time I have come to know her both personally and professionally.
I first met Patty while working for KB Home as the Vice President of the company. She was the DUP Manager and held several other key responsibilities for the company. In knowing Patty, I have seen first hand her determination and stamina regarding any project she’s been responsible for. Patty has been a corporate manager for many years and comes across as being very dedicated and passionate to the company and organization she is apart of. Patty is always willing to offer her assistance and knowledge into any given project. As a leader, Patty offers creative insight and shows great resolve in making sound business decisions and is able to motivate those around her. I have seen Patty work both as a manager and team player and is very aggressive in achieving objectives she places on herself or those given to her. Patty is a very dedicated individual and has the ambition to take on any challenge that she may face.
Sincerely,
Jeff Davis

The Gar Rowbotham Memorial NLP Scholarship
After living in Honolulu, Hawaii, for over 34 years, I returned to Connecticut in August 2006 to be closer to my Mother who is in falling health.
I attended the NYC Learning Annex weekend events in November 2006 and less than three weeks later I was in Chicago attending my first 5 day bootcamp. As life would have it, the first bootcamp led to another bootcamp, then another, then another and then even more. I always believed the old adage: “If you think education is expensive, try ignorance” – or words to that affect. The rest is history. It was not long before my credit card balances totaled in the mid-high 5 figure range. What a mess! And to think all my new found knowledge has not produced one red cent of income and that my new “life” was 180 degrees different from my former, totally debt-free life in Honolulu.
The above is why I am applying for The Gar Rowbotham Memorial NLP Scholarship. If my application is acted upon favorably, I will ensure helping other people get out of the same mess I got myself into, only without charge.

I hope this isn’t too late boss…

I have been asked to write an email, stating why Tim Shay would be a good person to learn and use NLP to help people.
I’m not sure what exactly I should say about him. Its kind of ironic, that he should ask in such a vague manner, when he is usually all about precision in his communication, but I’m sure that will be the subject of a few humorous topic of conversation in the near future.
What I’ll choose to talk about will be the man I know, the man I’ve known for over 20 years now, matter of fact. I went to Middle School with him, and have been close friends ever since, thinking of him much like a brother. I’ve watched him grow, always focusing and learning every nuance of some subject that get his attention, whether it be his abilities as a musician, his techniques as a teacher, or some more fundamental aspects of the spiritual nature of his personality, over the years. He manages to command great respect from his peers, whether its the professionals he works with, or his friends and family.
Because these things are his passions. And because these are his passions, he always develops a talent that sets him apart, understanding these things more deeply.
Neurolinguisitics has been a major focus in his life for the past few years, integrating it into both his belief systems, and using the concepts to refine the tools he’s always used, as well as expand the vocabulary of his tools, to increase his personal effectiveness. It has become a relatively new passion of his, from the scale I use, but has had a profound effect on his life, be it personal growth on his part, or impressive professional success.
But that is only one aspect of the man I know.
*
Another side of him would discuss the heart of the man. This…is maybe what you really need to hear, as it lets you know better why he commands so much respect from anyone that knows him.
He is always a very welcome presence in everyone’s lives. Always a friend, always a mentor, always a helping hand. I’ve never heard anyone speak badly of him in earnest, and I’m friends with one of his Ex-girlfriends.
He stays close to his students years after he’s stopped teaching them, which I think is a strong example of the quality of his character in and of itself. And it isn’t limited to the studio. He had often forged bonds with people looking for direction or understanding, seeking to grow without knowing how. There are many people that value his genuine insight and empathy, even when it manifests as simple conversations over lunch.
He’ll go the extra mile too. Because he’s like a brother to me, I could discuss what he has done for those that were in a bad place in their lives, when he chose to be there to help. But, I feel uncomfortable bringing up the painful, and often private, affairs of others, minor or severe.
However, I can bring up my own, in a brief way.
I was in a bad way several years ago, with a failing relationship devastating my state, the fracturing of what had become my family pushing me close to depression, with suicidal tendencies. Tim bent over backwards and taxed his schedule to be there for me, and did much more than be there for me. In all honesty, in retrospect and now that I know a bit about it, he likely practiced more than a few NLP techniques to keep me afloat, and to help me relearn how to keep myself afloat.
Did it help that we had been good friends for years? I’m sure it did. But he’s done much the same for much more casual acquaintances.
The man’s always been all heart. He genuinely cares for his fellows, and few people don’t value his presence in their lives. And personally, I think its just a matter of time before they do too.
*
The man excels in everything he does, because if something catches his attention, it never really leaves it. He is a learning machine, an engine if you will, having nothing that even resembles idle time. I mean, I may have on occasion made jokes about him and audio books while driving, but really I understand his thirst to learn, to understand.
Some of the things that surprise people about him is the detailed knowledge he picks up that, at first glance, have nothing at all to do with his multiple focuses. But as I said, his passions and talents set him apart. He sees how things inter-relate, how differing subjects or fields have an influence on each other, and he’ll explore the next subject in detail, in order to understand the first that much more fully.
Even if its only a marginal, subtle influence. Even if he doesn’t like it.
I always found it just a little perverse, in a humorous way. And very admirable.
I have no doubt in my mind that he DOESN’T need to take this course in order to learn advanced NLP techniques. I say this because I’ve known him for years, and that he will continue to expand his knowledge every moment of his life regardless, and will never stop. I also know he will use what he understand, to the best of his abilities, to continue to have an impact on people’s lives, as he always has.
Because of the man he is. Because he will never stop.
I also think it would be a real shame, because of the missed opportunities, had he been able to study it proper, learn it more fully, sooner…
*
This was too brief, and I did not say as much as I likely should.
NLP is about precision with communication, right?
I’m going to blame him, for not giving me precise information in the first place.
Thank you for your time.

Good enough, Mr Shay?
re: Ingrid Buckley
My name is Ingrid Buckley. I am 33 years old and I am planning on taking the biggest risk of my life….. quitting my job and developing my own business full time.
1. Why do you want to attend the 2008 Modern Jedi NLP Training?
Although my husband is wonderfully supportive, can’t say that for everyone in my life. I am very nervous about throwing caution to the wind and pursuing my dreams…. I want to be a full time Life Coach and help people “Live their Dream”. That’s the name of my company.
I have previously heard of NLP in the Anthony Robbins series. It really interested me.
I believe that the NLP training will assist me in what I need to do in order for me to achieve my dream. After all, I can’t expect of others what I am not willing to do myself…. giving up something I am comfortable with in order to live out my dream.
2. What do you want to change in your life?
I want to change the feeling I have “is this all there is”? I know I am blessed and am very grateful for all I have. However, I keep thinking, there’s got to be something more! I believe it’s how I have been interpreting and thinking about my life. It’s only been within the last couple of years, I have come to understand that my life purpose is Life Coaching and Healing… I am also a Reiki Practitioner.
I would love to be more confident in influencing and “persuading” others. This is what holds me back from “closing” potential clients.
3. What do you want to change in your work/job/career?
Well, see #1 …and I want to have a more direct impact on others. I work as a high school counselor right now and I don’t really feel like I am “making a dent”. The idealistic views of “making a difference” in people’s lives that I so passionately held while I worked on my masters degree, quickly faded upon being confronted with the harsh realities of the “job”.
In addition, when I wrote my “personal vision” in January 2008, hypnosis was one of the certifications I wanted to also earn!
4. Why should the scholarship be awarded to you? With me resigning this month from a “paying” job in order to pursue my “dream”, I can not reconcile paying for a course right away. I am also scheduled to earn my Reiki “Master/Teacher” Level in July.
The scholarship won’t end with me. I plan on using all the tools and knowledge with clients and people in my life. I will “pay it forward”…..
5. References: Please have at least 1 friend or
relative share why they think you should win the scholarship
My mother will be forwarding this to you….
6. What will you do with your new knowledge and skills after
the training?
As previously mentioned, as a Life Coach and Reiki Practitioner, I plan on integrating into my practice. In addition, I would consider continuing my education and perhaps become an instructor……
Re: Ingrid Buckley
My name is Resi Buttner and I am Ingrid Buckley’s mother.
I have known her all of my life and she is very committed to having her own business. She is a Life coach and Reiki Practicitioner. I don’t know a lot about Neuro Linguistic Programming but Ingrid is very interested in it. She believes it will help her not only with developing her own business, it will be beneficial to her clients.
Ingrid works hard and when she decides to do something, she puts her whole effort into it.
Ingrid is planning on resigning from her position this month in order to pursue her dream of being a full time Life Coach. She is married and has a 22 month old daughter; and all the finances that come with having a family and a home.
Sincerely
Resi Buttner
Re: Scott Tordoff
I really wanted to attend last year but didn’t have the confidence to believe I would find the funds to pay for it. I obviously have an issue with money and lack minded even though I know better.
I want to change this lack minded mentality and I would like to have the confidence to believe I deserve success. I would like to only work helping people as a type of healer.
Either through energy work like Reiki or writing or healing in any other way needed. The scholarship should be awarded to the most deserving person. Since I have a hard time giving myself credit that is hard for me to say.
That is probably why I am doing this at the last minute. I would say as you all go over this if I am the one your gut says should receive this than I am the one. I otherwise would say you know as you are reading these who jumps out to you and go with them there is a reason that it is speaking to you.
I trust the universe and I will receive this gift if it is my time if not let the person who does do great things with it. I would like to use the training to maybe do something with alcohol or drug abuse.
I haven’t drank since march of 1996 but it was a battle and sometimes still is now. There is always a reason someone abuses something and it is usually to mask a problem or traumatic event. These tools could help someone deal with that issue and also help the abuse of themselves decrease.
I took one of the one day seminars with Mark and it helped my anxiety and I would like to do more for me and others . One person at a time we can all help the globe and maybe even beyond.
Keep up the great work. May the force be with you.

Re: Scott Tordoff
My name is Nancy Tordoff and I am Scott’s mother.
Think he should win the scholarship because he wants to help people with addictions and thinks these are tools that can truly help.
He hasn’t had a drink in 12 years and it was quite a battle at the beginning but thinks that if people could figure out why they drink and/or do drugs that they could deal with those issues and treat the root of the problem instead of the symptom.
He is a Reiki practitioner and would like to only do this kind of work but has had to supplement with other less desirable work and is trying to attract more clients and believes this would help.
Thank you for your time.

Mark, Admin, Applicants, & our friends/family that have sent such positive references:
I sincerely thank you. I am honored by you. Seriously, we have all taken a chance on this contest. We have invested time, emotions, thought and shared our stories for the world to see. We all have had great reasons for doing so and we have had times and events in our lives to validate learning NLP and TLT. I am honored to have been a party to such worthy contestants. Not that it was just a contest but more of a communal choosing or induction. Contests have winners and losers. We can all win in this scenario in the long run.
I hope to meet all of you in training and I am confident that we will be good friends. As a friend I would like to add my support to your goals as well. Anything I can do to help any of you achieve your dreams… Anything I can do to help you gain perspective…. Anything I can do to enable you to help yourself and others…. I will do without hesitation.
I would also like to add a more specific Thank you here to Mark and Staff. I am grateful for the opportunity you are affording me and I am certain that we are going to have a great time! I am looking forward to meeting you and as I learn and grow I will certainly reciprocate this act of kindness in the present and future as well. Your actions and choice to teach me does not and will not go unnoticed. You are helping me to help others and that is a noble act in and of itself. In short, I appreciate you and your efforts as a musician, educator and I wish you many successes.
Also, a note of thought about anyone who is “on the fence” deciding whether or not to take training. Do it! You can! Have faith in yourself! Have faith in the people that support you! Have faith in human kind! We all have choice!……..Mark, I truly believe that your trainings and services are such a tremendous value that people cannot afford not to attend. I have done the research. I have done my homework.
If they don’t think they have the time; then they need the training. Time lining is about the subjective structure of time (from what I have read) and If you don’t feel that you have the time. You are creating the “reality” of not having the time. We all have the same 24 hours in a day. Don’t we? All time. All possibilities. And what does that say of money? It has been said that “Time is Money” for so long that it is a form of cultural hypnosis now. So learn how to manage your states, time, money and beliefs in 8 days?!?!?! The possibilities are endless! The necessity should be evident!!!
If they believe in any of their limitations about not coming to training; they NEED to come to training.
The only limitations that we have are the ones that we have learned and we can…. and it’s natural…. to have had experiences…. and learnings…. that means that we owe it to ourselves to find our limiting beliefs and behaviors and add more choice to our lives. We can choose excellence. We can chose prosperity. We can choose inner peace.
We can…..
Thank you again.
